The theme for this years Port Of Cork Schools Initiative Competition was:
‘A Day in the life of a Cruise Passenger visiting Cork’.
5th and 6th class entered this fantastic project and it was on display with the other entries in the Cobh Heritage Centre for 6weeks.
We decided to base our project on…
The Top 20 things to do in Cork.
The biggest job we had was to pick the 20 best things to do in Cork! After a VERY LONG discussion, we picked our top 20!
We used felt and wadding to create our project and we were really happy with how it turned out.
We marked out lots of different towns around Cork and placed our Top 20 things to do on the map according to their location!
We then researched each place and displayed the information and prices on a backdrop.
Here are a few pictures of the project!
Today was a very eventful day! Parents and children gathered outside and we had our flag ceremony. We first read the original proclamation and then read our own new generation proclamation. Each class had an input in this proclamation. It includes our hopes and visions for the next 100 years. If you would like to read it, please click on this link! > https://www.scoilnet.ie/proclamationtemplate/proclamation/procid/795/
The oldest and youngest pupils, raised the flag and we sang Amhrán na bhFiann.
After this, we raised our new Biodiversity Green Flag that we received last week. This is our 5th Green Flag!
We then took to the roads and walked around the village for our annual St Patrick’s Day walk. The children looked fantastic all kitted out in their green white and orange! There was a fantastic turn out this year and we would like to thank everyone that made an effort to come!
We finished off the evening with some PIZZA! A big thank you to the Parents Association who organised this for all the kids!
Holidays tomorrow at 12pm, Happy Easter everyone!
The 5th and 6th went on a little walk to see could we spot some signs of spring. We were pleasantly surprised by what we found! We explored our school yard and the road outside. We worked in groups and documented everything we found including, buds, leaves, trees and lots of different wildlife! Here we are in action!
1916 Flag Ceremony
Last Thursday the 11th of February the boys and girls experienced a little piece of history. Three members of the Irish Naval Service & Army Service came to the school to present us with our national flag and a copy of the 1916 Proclamation. We all wore green, white and orange to mark this special occasion.
They explained to us that they had come to present the flag, and that it was a part of the government’s commemoration of the 100th anniversary of 1916, and that next year every school in Ireland will raise the flag on March 15th. This day will be known as Proclamation Day.
The proclamation was then read aloud by Kara from the Naval Service and Kaitlyn Ahern from 5th class.
The flag & a copy of the proclamation was then presented to the oldest and youngest pupils in our school – Jack O’ Leary (6th class) and Sarah Laffan (Junior Infants).
The ceremony finished with everybody standing and singing our national anthem, “Amhrán na bhFiann”.
Here are some pictures of the ceremony!
